Stanford Africa MBA Fellowship 2021-2022

   Stanford University offers Stanford Africa MBA fellowship to six Africans who wish to pursue an MBA degree at Stanford University.  The program is set annually to help citizens from Africa study at university, acquire basic skill sets for a standard two-year period and return to the continent, to work in critical positions that directly affect and improve Africa.

  Africa is at the forefront of significant global economic growth and opportunity.  Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business (GSB) is pleased to contribute to the human and economic development of the region by educating leaders committed to making an impact on the continent.

  The Stanford University Africa MBA Fellowships Program pays the associated tuition and fees (approximately US $ 140,000) for citizens of African countries with financial needs and who wish to pursue an MBA at Stanford GSB.


  The fellowship was created to lower the financial barrier for African citizens to pursue an MBA at Stanford GSB.  Up to eight fellowships will be awarded annually.

  Within two years of graduating from Stanford GSB, Stanford Africa MBA fellows are required to work in Africa for at least two years in a professional role that contributes to the development of the continent.

  Eligibility Stanford Africa MBA Fellowship

  The following conditions apply to anyone interested in this scholarship:

  • You must have completed, or be in the final stages of completing, your undergraduate studies, preferably at an institution in Africa.
  • Students who obtain a first degree outside of Africa are also eligible.
  • You must be a citizen of an African country.
  • You must return to work in Africa within two years of graduating and remain employed in your country of origin for two years.
  • You must demonstrate the traits befitting a Stanford University MBA fellow, including leadership potential, intellectual prowess, and personal qualities that contribute positively to the class.
  • Must be committed to using the leadership and management skills learned at Stanford University to improve the African economy.
  • You must prove financial need based on the personal financial information you put into your application.

  Qualification for Stanford Africa MBA Fellowship

  • To determine your financial need, you must complete the Stanford Financial Aid process after your admission.
  • All Stanford MBA students, regardless of nationality, are eligible for financial aid based on your proven financial need.
  • Stanford GSB provides a need-based fellowship for MBA students regardless of nationality.
  • For international citizens, Stanford GSB offers a loan program that does not require a co-location from the United States.
  • The financial aid application process requires information about your assets and income.
  • Stanford University Africa MBA fellows receive financial support for the cost of the Stanford MBA fees and associated fees for the duration of the two-year course of study.

  If you are accepted into the Stanford University MBA program but not selected as a Stanford University Africa MBA Fellow, you will still be eligible to receive financial aid based on the need demonstrated in your financial aid application.  Your award will usually include a combination of grants and loans.

  How to Apply for Stanford Africa MBA Fellowship

 Apply for financial aid as needed by the deadline.  After reviewing financial aid requests, Stanford GSB will notify you if you have been selected as an MBA Fellow at Stanford Africa.  Confirm enrollment with the Stanford GSB and accept the Stanford Africa MBA Fellowship.  To apply for this scholarship, please follow the steps below.

 The application process

  You will be required to submit the following with your scholarship application;

  • Educational history – an unofficial copy of your university is sufficient.  Official copies of your transcripts will only be required when you are admitted to the MBA program.  You can also submit your GMAT (Senior Management Admission Test) or GRE (Graduate Record Examination) results at this point.  Note that results from either of these two tests will also be required for an MBA application.
  • Any awards and honors (academic, personal, or professional)
  • Employment history – Although letters of recommendation are not necessary at this stage, you will need two of them to apply for the MBA.
  • One page resume or resume (CV)
  • An essay of 250 words about how you intend to make an impact in Africa
  • Individual financial information

  All finalists apply to the Stanford University MBA program

All fellowship finalists must apply to the Stanford University MBA program in the first or second round.  Submitting your application in the first round works in your favor, as the competition is intense in the second round.  Also, if you advance in the first round, you will have more time to prepare your application.

  • The MBA application must be submitted with GMAT or GRE scores, and results from an English language test (IELTS, PTE, TOEFL), if applicable.
  • Finalists can request one voucher to cover the cost of the GMAT or GRE exam.
  • MBA course application fees or finalists will be waived.

  Receive an offer of admission -Stanford GSB will select up to eight MBA fellows out of 100 finalists.

  Note: The application fee for the Stanford University MBA program is $ 275.  Please note that the application fee is waived for applicants earning a salary equal to or less than $ 20,000.  Once you apply, you will receive more information about the currency conversion rate, and how this is calculated.
